Heat Factory is basically THE company when it comes to portable heat-creating devices. This footliner is made with a space to accept a heating pack. There are plastic ridges which distribute the heat all over the footbed. I put these in my hiking boots and my shoes this spring and was amazed at the difference they make in keeping your whole body warm. No more squirming your toes around to try to create some heat, your toes have a little mini sauna. The first time I tried them was late at night, I just wanted to see how they worked, imagine my surprise when I put my feet in my shoes the next morning and they were still warm! These suckers last 8-12 hours. They are super easy to install, its easy to replace the heatpacks, they really do keep you warm, and they aren't too expensive. Definitely a must have for cold-weather camping and hiking.

These foot beds are a great idea, I am surprised I have not seen them before. I tested these foot beds on multiple occasions. The most appropriate one being the weekend of Arctic Man. It was a cold weekend, we were camping and I was very glad to have the foot beds. Basically the foot beds are insoles that replace the liners (or go on top of) in your shoe. A heat pad slides into the toe and the heat spreads throughout the rest of the foot. The amount of warmth depends on the temperature. My feet were not hot at Arctic Man, they were warm. Indoors, when tested, they were hot. They work really well. The one draw back I found was their comfort. They are pretty rigid and hard (the plastic is used to spread the heat). I hiked about 3 miles in them and by the end I could feel it. However, lounging around and not doing extensive hiking they are GREAT. This company also makes a headband with pockets in the ears to put in warmers for the ears. It is great to have stuff like this out there for people like me who are always cold and need artificial warmth!
